Historic old courthouse built starting in 1839; the locus of several important judicial decisions, including the Dred Scott decision, which when finally decided by the Supreme Court in 1857 was a major stepping-stone to the Civil War. Now the courthouse is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, a national park that includes the Arch. The eight-story building to the right of the courthouse in this image is the International Fur Exchange building, built in 1919. It's an important link to the history of St Louis.
