To answer the question posed by one of the posters below,
the mask is called a 'fly mask' and as the name implies
it is intended to protect the horse's eyes from ravaging flies.

I've also been told that it protects the horse from harsh
sunlight. I bit like sunglasses.

It is not opaque.
The horses can see through it quite well
and do not seem to be bothered by it.

Great composition and viewer interest. But, what's the purpose of the blindfold in the first place? Is it really opaque?

I find it interesting that you chose to take the picture of a horse with a mask on. But as you can see it drew me to the photo! The composition is excellent!
