As mentioned yesterday, my tribe (the Elderhostel participants) elected me to be their Chief and represent them to the Maori warriors who challenged us before dinner at the Meeting House with the Powhiri and Wero (Formal welcome ceremony and Challenge by the warriors.)
We were not be intimidated by the grunts, googles, and tongue out insults and made “peace.” After amity was established I exchanged the Hongi (pressing my nose twice with the Chief and then with his woman). Everyone relaxed and settled into an evening of singing and dancing and speeches before we had our multi-course Hangi Diner.
Here I am enjoying comradeship with the Maori Warrior who had challenged me with his antics.
