September 20: The Magical D70!

Tillamook, Oregon

Tonight I had the privilege of meeting fellow Picture A Day enthusiasts, Beck and Katie Chew. They had us over for an excellent evening meal in their home in Tillamook.

Here is Beck demonstrating the incredible flexibility of the Nikon D70 which apparently takes outstanding images even with the lens caps on!

Cousin Joe and wife Sandy are my great travelling companions and joined us at dinner.

Wow, Robin, you get around! Sounds like you're having a delightful trip! Love your photo today, and your brilliant sense of humor.

You mean I'm supposed to take the cap off the lens?
But the D70 takes such good photos even with it on!!!
We enjoyed having the three of you, plan on returning anytime.
Aubry especially enjoyed Sandy.

Fun! With a rangefinder, and not a Reflex, those photos turn out even better...

There is nothing magical at a Nikon.
The fact that Canon has not reached yet the same skills in focusing and sharpness is due to the fact they have not repeated what they did once when they started building cameras and what was so simple to do : buying again the latest technology patents from Nikon to make it work the way it should, just like they did with the focusing of their high end EOS1 cameras and with the Ultrasonic USM technology..
As I allways say, but it remains a dream : Canons digic cmos and Nikons focusing technology allied with image processing of the Pentax 1stD. That would be a dream camera, close to perfection.
I tried the 20D 3 weeks ago and basic pictures are so blurred that they need mountains of USM and the 9 field focusing shoots just what it wants to do by it's own in wide field shots. So, I will see at Photokina end of next week to see what comes at others.
The best in this 20D marketing is the price and the others need to make a big step forward to be competitive in that field.
So, enjoy the pleasure to "play" with a good camera sometimes, Robin.

Well Robin, sorry to tell you but Nikon's picture is sharper! :^)

Nikons aren't the only camera to shoot thru the lens cap. I do it at least once a week on my Canon!
Guest 21-Sep-2004 05:14
haha, hilarious caption

LOL!! Oh, Robin you're so mean to us Nikon users. LMAO. You're meeting lots of PADers. Soon you'll break Jeanne's record. And I'm so bad I don't even "know" these folks, but glad they've taken you in for dinner.

Very cool indeed. Great that y'all connected like that, and so glad to see that I'm not the only one that occasionally experiences that "oh my gosh something's wrong with the Nikon!" moment with the lens cap firmly attached.
Guest 21-Sep-2004 04:37
WOW!! POTD MEETUP!! How cool! And I'm laughing about the lens cap!!

The things Nikon people do, nice to meet Beck.
