A vaporous slip of a cloud by a bare branch gives this image a smoky feeling, and the crushed pathway and mixed tones of brambles and shrubs suggest a residue of covering ash as though a fire had recently swept through, wasting some trees and ground, and only a wisp of smoke tells the tale. Are things what they seem?
