The Common Ground Country Fair, now in its 35th year, is an event hosted by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) a 50 year old organization dedicated to the improvement of organic growing.
As a purely agricultural fair, there are no rides and no carnival games. Many organic farmers and gardeners as well as crafters and other artisans show and sell their wares as do manufacturers and sellers of farming and gardening tools and equipment and other necessities of rural life. Additionally, many social and environmental causes are represented and information disseminated to those who want it.
There are many animals to be seen at the fair of all species found on farms. The sheepdog exhibition is an annual favorite of many. There are no animal competitions such as horse and ox drawing.
The wide variety of freshly made organic foods is available offering something for everyone. Several music and dancing venues are to be found for further entertainment.
This very popular three-day long event attracts fair goers from all over New England and beyond.
