The first notion is that you are gliding on a narrow Venetian canal heading toward the Rialto Bridge, with high walls, some white washed, of stone lining your path, and an Italian sky, so richly blue with their fading clouds tinting the waters beside you. But something is amiss. That is no Gothic architecture at the end of the waterway, but red brick buildings with high arched windows that although attractive in their own way, smacking of Greek revival, fail to be authentically Italian. Nevertheless, the image embodies a wishful dream in its beauty and stunning reflections.
