The Great Ice Storm of 2008 ( December 11th & 12th ) is one for the record books.
Initially it put 400,000 electric utility customers in the dark throughout southern New Hampshire as well
as affecting some communities in Massachusetts. Utility crews from over a dozen states and Canada converged on the
affected New England areas to help restore electric power. Windblown was without power for 11 days and others went
without power for up to 17 plus days. Our phone service was out for 20 days and others were waiting longer.
The only saving grace of the disaster was on the 15th & 16th when temperatures climbed to the 50's to melt all the ice of the trees.
The last dozen pictures show the distructive damage after the ice was gone from the trees.
These images can not begin to show the devastation throughout the entire trail system of Windblown XC Ski Touring Center.
I remember this Ice storm back on Dec. 2008 as Fitchburg Mass. (that's where I live) is one of the hardest hit area. We didn't have power for 8 days. Other communities didn't have power for more than 2 weeks. :-(
I did not had the chance to go out and take pictures of the damages in fitchburg and neighboring towns and cities so thank you very much for sharing this pictures.
