13 Apr, as firefighters were finishing up with the vehicle fire, the department was dispatched to a structure fire at the Burk Village Apartments on Park Street. On arrival firefighters encountered heavy fire which had vented through the roof, mutual aid was immediately requested from Iowa Park and Sheppard AFB and shortly there after Wichita Falls. Crews battled the blaze for about 30 to 45 minutes before bringing it under control. Four of the five apartments sustained major damage with the fifth receiving minor damage. The fire was caused by plumbers working on the second floor of one of the units accidentally igniting insulation which rapidly spread in the wall to the attic. The workers tried desperately to extinguish the fire and then alerted the rest of the occupants. All occupants escaped the building safely and no injuries were reported throughout the incident. The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced families.
