Sharp-shinned Hawk - Juvenile

Accipiter striatus

When I realized that there were no birds at the feeders on this cold winter day I assumed the neighborhood Cooper's hawk was nearby. When I looked to see if it was on its favorite perch I discovered a sharp-shinned had flown in and was perched on one of the Cooper's favorite spots. this was taken through a double-paned sliding glass door. He soon flew off empty-footed!

A terrific shot of this lovely accipiter. I rarely have these visitors in my garden, yet in my old house in a busy downtown area, cooper's and occasionally sharp-shinneds, were common! V

Nice shot, Ann. I noted a deserted back yard once for the same reason.
