Looking East with the sun still 15 degrees above the horizon. Sun is pretty bright, but with a strong red/yellow compliment, behind me.

Notice the shoreline about 1/3 of the way up from the base of the mountains. This is one of three distinct shorelines from the ancient Lake Bonneville which once covered much of Utah and parts of Nevada and Idaho. The lake receeded and emptied to the north. When the water level receeded, in the mouth of the many canyons are 'alluvial fingers or fans' which are now surface - mined to provide sand and gravel for road construction projects throughout the state.
