View of the Dezadeash Lake from the Haines Highway. The are has a very desolate and wild feel to it, or at least that was the experience I had when I passed through. In this area I also encountered black bears in plain view from the road.
The Haines highway is a very scenic route and provides many beautiful panoramic views. Especially remarkable is the passage over and near the highest point of the road and the Three Guardsmen Mountain.
The Haines Highway connects Haines in Alaska with Haines Junction in the Yukon Territory, passing through the province of British Columbia. For the first 180km (110 miles) from Haines it follows the route of the old Dalton Trail and the total length of the highway is 244 km (152 miles) long.
