This orchid is common in most parts of the mediterranean and central Europe but is is nevertheless special. It is large compared to most native orchids standing up easily up to half a meter (sometimes even a meter). And it is also a parasite on fungi which makes it possible to survive without leaves. Because of this habit the plant is practically impossible to cultivate.
