USAF/USN/USCG

In the 1980's and early-1990's, numerous deployments brought large numbers of USAF/ANG F-4's, F-15's and F-16's to Europe. Almost every month a deployment seem to take place. Thrilling times, but long gone. Also, many of the USAFE fighters and supporting aircraft have moved home, where many of them now reside in the desert.

Correction to your above statement.
US military aviation still boasts cutting edge technologies, ahead of any nation in the world.
The United States still has fighter plane deployments in many parts of the world,
including land bases and air carriers.
You are right that the US has plenty of decommissioned, airplanes, but this is the same with other countries.
Also, several fleets are stored in the dry climate desert for potential future use.
I live in California and love planes and flying.
