I took this photograph on Saturday evening, 9 June. These butterflies spend all day feeding and they never land fully. They feed a bit like hummingbirds and they spend only a few seconds at each flower. Usually they are incredibly difficult to photograph. However, in the late afternoon some butterflies seem to be completely shattered and rest up as this one did. It was getting a bit dark so I needed to use flash which I did setting the camera to manual to get a reasonable shutter speed for hand holding and a smallish aperture for a decent depth of field.
