Soap Films

This is my first gallery on PBase and it's a collection of my soap film photographs, I hope you find them interesting. I wasn't sure what to put in my first gallery but settled on this subject as results from the search engine suggest it's not well represented on PBase.
I would love to receive comments/feedback (good and bad) and I thank you for taking the time to look at my photographs.

Hi Available Light Images, thanks for the comments. Regarding the solution I normally use, read some of the replies I have made below. I have tried other mixes but still find water (distilled), washing-up soap and glycerin in equal proportions the best mixture. Let the prepared solution stand for at least a day. I also try to coax the soap films into looking more interesting, this may involve tapping the wire support, blowing gently on the soap film or even adding additional drops of solution onto the wire support. Lastly, be patient, some days the soap films behave and other days they just sulk. Best Regards, Richard.

I am jealous, your shots are amazing. I have just started to try this technique myself and am not really getting anywhere.. Your light seems really even and the colors are fantastic. Also, your solution seems very pure, with no bits in it... I am struggling here in China to find a good solution, so any tips massively appreciated... best wishes and a super soapy gallery...

Hi Julie and Thomas, thanks for your comments they are much appreciated. Julie regarding technique I basically use a wire loop(old coat hanger) dipped in what seems to be a standard soap solution for this type of photography i.e. equal parts water, washing-up liquid and glycerin. However, despite what the EXIF data shows I do use an off-camera flash, in manual mode, to illuminate the film. Hope this helps, I'll gladly provide more detail if you think it would be useful. Richard, I enjoyed this gallery very much. The images would look wonderful blown up to poster size. I have never seen this techbniqu before and wonder how you achieved it. Thanks.
