Beardmore Dam is located near the township of St George in outback Queensland. The dam was built in 1972 on the Balonne River below the junction of the Maranoa River. The dam has a central spillway and 12 gates. The reservoir behind the dam backs up both the Balonne and Maranoa Rivers providing over 100000 megalitres of water used for irrigating crops and providing many kilometres of waterways for fishing, boating and recreation. These images show the effects of drought but thankfully the region has had recent rain.
