Argus 75 (1958-64)

A Christmas gift from my parents, this was my first camera. I was in high school and could not afford film or processing, so the camera was used very little. By the time I could afford photography, I'd moved on to a 35mm rangefinder.

The Argus 75 was a twin lens reflex with a Argus Lumar 75mm f/13 lens. The camera made 6x6cm images on now discontinued 620 film. It is shown here with the portrait lens and flash attachments.

Richard, greetings.

I chanced across your camera collection images, and thought this camera was a lovely example, and by your words I can see it means a lot to you for reasons that go beyond the camera itself. I don't know if you are aware of this, but you can still get film for this camera. 620 film is the same as modern 120 roll film, except the spools are different. A company called J and C Photo sells color Fuji and B+W Efke (made in Croatia from a 1940's recipe, with a high silver content -- lovely emulsion) on 620 spools. Any lab that can process 120 roll film can handle it. (I process the Efke at home myself, using 120 reels and tanks.) If you want to order some, you can reach the 620 catalog page for J and C at this URL:

Good luck. If you fire up the Argus again, be sure to send the results my way.
