The official temperature was 107°F (42°C) as the late running QLA train approached the Enid Yard office for a crew change. On this particular day, the Birmingham to Los Angeles TOFC train was led by SD45's #6682 (ex-Frisco #934) and #6515, and SD40-2's #8028 and #8045, and trailed by Colorado & Southern caboose #10659. Within a few minutes the Santa Fe's Kiowa local, LMI-63-1, and the OKT's transfer to the BN yard followed the QLA.
Locomotive #6682 was the last former Frisco SD45 I observed. Built in 1969, Burlington Northern retired it in October, 1986.
One of my favorite railroad photographs. Thanks to a perfect sun angle, as well as a sky darkened by an approaching cold front, it was one of the few times I had ideal lighting for the somewhat difficult to photograph BN livery.
