American Goldfinch

Very common at backyard bird feeders yet they can be very wary around people unlike their redpoll and siskin cousins from the north, but this guy was perched on this cattail for the longest time and while I initially wasn't going to bother trying to get a photo because of the rocks in the way, certain the bird would fly, I was eventually tempted to try and he paid no attention as I climbed down the rocks within camera range. I feared I wouldn't get a shot because he kept looking at everything but me except for this one split second. Afterwards, I went to climb over to another rock, but the recent rain had left the rocks wet and I slipped, had to make a dramatic jump and thump to keep myself upright and that was the end of this photo opportunity.

Beautiful pose, sharpness and DOF. Congrats but hope you aren't bruised.
