This my entry for this week's macro challenge. Earlier in the summer larose forest photos (Christine) introduced me to these weekly challenges and this is my first time participating. I hope to participate in future weekly challenges and look forward to seeing your photos. For more macro photos visit: http://form.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=44445
This is a close-up showing the detail in a fungi called Comb Tooth. The next photo is a wide angle shot of the same fungi to show it in its environment.
It's been a cool and rainy weekend here. This afternoon, since the rain was holding off, I thought I'd go for a walk through the damp forest to see what I could find for fungi. There were plenty of fungi around, but only a few of which I could identify and only one specimen of this fungi. This fungi offered an interesting opportunity for a macro photo with its intricate details that are only visible at close range.
Along the way on my fungi walk I also met up with my neighborhood Barred Owl. Most of my encounters with this owl occur on cool, damp days like this. I also encountered a neighbor of mine who goes off into the woods to practice his bagpipes. He favors cool, damp days too! Really, he usually only goes out on bad weather days! So all the while I was out I could hear bagpipes in the distance, and being quite fond of the bagpipes (I am of Scottish ancestry!) I enjoyed this musical backdrop to my walk.
