Snowshoe Hare Droppings

The deer path I followed this morning faded away in a clearing where I found these droppings. I wonder if they might be rabbit or hare droppings. They don't look to be deer; they were different enough from what I recognize as deer to prompt me to photograph them. I've read that it is almost impossible to distinguish between rabbit and hare droppings, but in this case if these are indeed rabbit I can suspect hare because just prior to entering the clearing I saw a snowshoe hare! The hare was still completely white and I was easily able to visually follow it through the woods until the increasing amount of vegetation between us blocked my view.

Interesting photo! Typically hare and rabbit scat are round brown pellets, like little sawdust balls. But also typically, they defecate twice, eating the first lot and then defecating again. I've never seen the first go-round, and apparently they are very difficult to find. Maybe you disturbed the hare just as he was about to engage in coprophagy!
