I was fortunate to find this dragonfly larvae at the moment it was about to emerge from the skin of the last larval stage.
The photos below were taken periodically over a time span of 30 minutes. Right after I took the last photo, I stepped back on the river bank
to stretch my legs for 3 to 4 minutes. When I looked back to the rock where the teneral was last perched, it was gone.
I was hoping to get a few more photos as it progressed into it's adult stage but it was not to be. During the half hour I watched and photographed the river
continued to rise and the wakes of boats on the river kept splashing against the rocks.
So I am not sure if a predator nabbed the teneral or it was washed into the river when my back was turned.
BTW: With help from several experts this teneral is believed to be an Arrow Clubtail female.
