what kind of caterpillar is redish orange with a black ring arounds its neck im guessing
We are in Eau Claire Wisconsin and found a hairless white caterpillar with a black stripe down its back and spots on its side. I can't find any pictures that look like it. Any idea what it is?
I live in western Kansas and found a hairless white caterpillar with a black stripe down it's back. It has a few tiny black spots evenly spaced down it's sides and a white head. I would love to know what it will be when it grows up!
I live in Wilmington, North Carolina..at a local lake here, I saw what I assume is a caterpillar. He was a beige color & his hair reminded me of a woolly mammoth's hair. His end was curled up. I didn't have a camera...any idea what he might be?
Very nice and interesting gallery. Thanks for sharing. V.
Hello! Great site, very helpful! Just wondering - I found a caterpillar that looks EXACTLY like the American Dagger Moth with the exception of the colors - it has snow white fur and tufts, except for the two longer tufts that protrude from the head region. Does this variation denote anything?
Thanks for all of your wonderful help!
can you please send your email to me at email@example.com
i found a black hairy caterpillar and when he curls up he has orangey red lateral stripes across his body between each set of hair. hes about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches and shiney black, not matte. he was in my kitchen and i have never seen one before. i live about 20 min west of fort worth texas if that helps. i have a good picture of his too that i would like to email you. thanks-- kaki
ps. im a pro photographer and your pictures are gorgeous---- very nice job.
Pleased to view your site, makes the rest so far look shameful. What can you tell me about a red and blue caterpillar with dots down its back in Southern ON.

This is a beautiful gallery.Great for identification...Thanks.
I have a dagger moth caterpillar who just pupated on July 29. How long will it take the larva to metamorph into a moth? We live in London, Ontario in a supposedly "carolinian" climate. Love all your lepidoptera larvae pictures!
I have a Henry's marsh caterpillar in my possecion and was trying to find care infromation for it.
Wonderful, I was able to identify my White Marked Tussock!
