Onstage and Backstage at the Nutcracker 2006

This gallery is composed of images from the Gwinnett Ballet Theatre's 25th Anniversary production season of The Nutcracker.
I have been asked many times to show more backstage scenes so I have included many shots from warm-up class before performance and backstage shots during performance.
None of these shots are posed. I lurk about backstage waiting on enough light to shoot. The dancers totally ignore me, thankfully!
The performance shots are mostly taken during dress rehearsals. There are also a few shots I made on stage during dress rehearsal shooting toward the audience.
All images were made with a Canon 5D at ISO 1600.

I love your pictures, i am a dancer, i dor tap, modern ballet(pointe) and jazz. I have also taking dance as a GCSE and have been dancing for 13 years( since i was 2), how can i get involved with this type of professional dance company.

Especially love the juxtaposition of onstage and backstage/rehearsal shots. If I only see these ethereal creatures onstage, its hard to realize they are real people. The backstage photos help me remember that they are. Voted.

Your pictures are outstanding. I've been checking this and other sites almost constantly over the past week for dance/theatre/concert pictures and these are a great resource. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of equipement do you use? I am a lighting design student and looking for a camera that will accurately capture the quality of the lights in theatre prodcutions, as well as the action of dance shows that I design the lights for. I am leaning towards either a Nikon D70s or D40....I'm also looking to pick up a lens with a constant f/2.8 but price is rapidly becoming an issue. Sorry for the long comment, but any help, advice, or notes on what you have found to be effective would be a great help. Thank you and once again, amazing photos both in this and other galleries!

A ballet is such a beatiful thing, there's a tendency to dehumanize the performers. These photos are lovely, but what really makes them special are the close-ups of the girls backstage. Just a wonderful collection, showing the perfection of the dance and the personality of the dancers.

These are further evidence of your outstanding abilities to capture not only fantastic posed shots - most difficult enough when these athletes are in mid air flight as in your November 2006 gallery, but also these shots.
