Whitney Sue Jones

Many have asked how this was done. To get the skirt to fly out like this, Whitney Sue did Pirouettes (spun on her toe) and on about the 2nd or 3rd turn I would snap. It took 26 tries to get this one! The lights flash at 1/1200th sec so they stopped the skirt.

Mr Calmes, Your entire line of photographs are absolutley among the best modeling shots I've ever seen! I can not get over the 'completeness' of each and every photo I've viewed, (I'll have to return often as I didn't have the time to look at them all). Although I've never considered doing any 'people' photos, (most of my stuff is manipulated photo art of nature), after seeing some of your work, I'm truly reconsidering it.

another vote Richard! Oh and thank your very cooperative subject for me too!:) That's why I mostly shoot flowers LOL No criticism this, but another take would be to time the flash so that the girl is sharp but the skirt still has some motion blur - takes perhaps 500 spins haha gina

A work of impeccable beauty, astounding grace and unlimited artistry. And your photograph is a winner as well. But seriously, I don't know when I've experienced the culmination of two worlds (light and motion) interlaced so breath-takingly grand in just one brief, tiny parcel of a second. Surely, this masterpiece was the colliding of two natural or more appropriately put, supernatual gifts from on High (much like how the Universe is said to have come into being).
