This large long-necked Grey Goose was once a common winter visitor in Scotland but is now found only as a single wintering flock confined to the area around the Slammanan plateau.
These geese are shy & difficult to approach tending to arrive & depart the roost site under the cover of darkness whilst during the day they split into small feeding groups which disperse over the Slammanan plateau. Currently the population is around 220 birds.
