Message from RAINBIRDER
WELCOME TO MY GALLERIES.
Birds are my passion but I find all aspects of the natural world of interest.
Initially most of my images were of birds photographed in Scotland but over the last few years I have had some great birding experiences whilst on family holidays in Europe & beyond which have since generated lots of new gallery material.
Whilst Scotland must rank as one of the most beautiful & scenic countries in the world (check out Ian Cameron's gallery @http://www.pbase.com/hwatt/scotland & Robert Strachan's gallery @http://www.pbase.com/straxx/landscape1 ) it has a number of drawbacks for bird photography. The biggest problem is the weather. Dark, gloomy, grey winter skys pose major lighting issues whilst frequent rain & strong winds make long lens work difficult. I spend so much time birding in such conditions that the name Rainbirder seems only appropriate!
Weather is a poor excuse however as others manage to get good images in such conditions: I would particularly commend John Anderson's excellent galleries @http://www.pbase.com/crail_birder.
Sadly my own skills & abilities are limited as I strive towards mediocrity! However there are bird photographers out there who clearly show what can be done by producing consistent, very high quality, aesthetically pleasing images. I would particulary recommend Daniele Occhiato's galleries as an example of this ( http://www.pbase.com/dophoto ). I find it too painful to linger long in his wonderful site as it only serves to highlight the huge gulf between his work & mine!!!
Thank you for visiting my galleries. Please feel free to leave comments as you feel appropriate. Advice & critical comments are particularly welcome........ I don't offend easily!!!
