Rincon de la Vieja

Roughly translating as the nook of the old woman this is a beautiful area comprised of a complex of four volcanoes clothed in lush rain forest. The National Park of Rincon de la Vieja is only 25km drive from Liberia & 90 minutes drive from the Pacific coastal hotels. We took a day trip with Carlos Jimenez to the Rincon NP then returned via the dry deciduous forest National Park of Santa Rosa. The Rincon area is stunningly beautiful with a range of forested habitats as well as steaming fumaroles & boiling mud pools. The area holds a good range of birds but clearly a visit of just a few hours can only provide an overview of what is around.
