RAINBIRDER

Scotland has one massive drawback when it comes to Bird photography ....it rains too much! Not just heavy downpours either but often consecutive days of dour perpetual drizzle & dampness with dim grey skies. The precipitation is so pervasive & pernicious that we Scots have an assortment of words & expressions to describe it. Cold miserable wet days are described as 'dreich' and are the norm throughout much of our winter but sadly such days also occur at other times of the year, even in high summer!

This is the curse of the Rainbirder, the price to be paid for living in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Yet all is not lost. The sun does OCCASIONALLY shine whilst even in rain it is still possible to take pictures. Besides, if it wasn't for this rain I wouldn't have been persuaded to try birding in foreign parts where I have seen some cracking birds & met some wonderful people.....but even then the rain sometimes follows!

So welcome to this gallery & come on in...into the rain!
