Lesser Adjutant (Leptoptilos javanicus)

Whilst not the most beautiful of birds this is a charismatic and interesting species. It is classified as vulnerable by Birdlife International with a global population of only 8,000 birds extending from India through south-east Asia. Though nowhere common it can still be seen with relative ease in Sri Lanka.

I have only seen this bird twice in Thailand. I agree, it is not a particularly beautiful bird but when it is on its wings it is rather impressive.
