All mature Long-tailed Tits begin each breeding season as individual monogamous pairs. However if a pair fail (eg nest predation) they may then go on to assist the rearing of their neighbours' young as helpers. It is likely that these helpers share kinship with the pairs they assist perhaps with each community of Long-tails living in a loose clan system.
