I believe there was a train wreck in this vicinity, which was the subject of one of the songs recorded by Ralph Peer in the 1927 Bristol Sessions (birthplace of country music).
Check "The Wreck of the Virginian" on Wikipedia.
The CD "Orthophonic Joy" contains a narrative of the wreck along with a recording of the song.
