Jarratt, VA

Now & Then - Jarratt, VA: We are looking east in these photographs, one taken in the late 1950's and the latter in April 2014. The Virginian Railway (VGN) and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (ACL) crossed at grade here. The brick structure is the VGN station that was built on the site of the original wood depot that burned down in 1954. The former ACL mainline, now the CSX North End Subdivision, is still double track through Jarratt today while the tracks of the former VGN were lifted across the diamond in 1978.

Top photo by John W. Barriger III (circa late 1950's).
Bottom photo by Jeff Hawkins (April 13, 2014).
