O Taj Mahal foi construído entre 1630 e 1652 a mando do imperador Shah Jahan em memória de sua esposa favorita - Aryumand Banu Begam, a quem chamava de Mumtaz Mahal ("A jóia do Palácio"). Foi todo construído em mármore branco e é conhecido como a maior prova de amor do mundo, contendo inscrições retiradas do Corão. É incrustado com pedras semipreciosas, tais como o lápis-lazúli entre outras. A sua cúpula é costurada com fios de ouro. O edifício é flanqueado por duas mesquitas e cercado por quatro minaretes.
Recentemente, em 7 de Julho de 2007, foi reconhecido como uma das Novas Sete Maravilhas do Mundo Moderno.
The Taj Mahal was built between 1630 and 1652 at the behest of Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife - Banu Begam Aryumand whom called Mumtaz Mahal (Jewel of the Palace). It was all built in white marble and is known as the greatest proof of love in the world, containing entries taken from the Koran. It is inlaid with semiprecious stones, such as lapis lazuli, among others. The dome is stitched with wires gold. The building is flanked by two mosques and surrounded by four minarets.
Recently, on July 7, 2007, was recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
