Amazing what millions of years of evolution will come up with.
From watching the bee feed on this flower it seemed pretty clear to me that the flower has evolved a mechanism which allow a bee to "press" deep into the flower when it is feeding. When the bee pushes it's head into the flower, a "pad" on the flower pushes into the back of the bee allowing it to get some traction or possibly keeping it there longer -- maybe to pick up more pollen?
