Tour du Mont Blanc & Zermatt 2003

Beginning June 28, and continuing through July 14, Kathy and I trekked through the Alps of Switzerland, France, and Italy. The first 10 days of our journey were spent walking the famed Tour du Mont Blanc, a 100 mile circuit of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in western Europe at 15,771 feet. The walk took us through 7 valleys, 3 countries, and over 58000 feet of elevation gain and loss. Nights were spent in modest refugios situated high in the mountains. The final 4 nights were spent walking through the Swiss town of Zermatt and its attendant peaks. Thirty eight 4000m peaks surround this village, among them the world famous Matterhorn, which soars 13,773 feet above Zermatt. The following is a photographic journey of our 2 weeks spent in the Alps. We hope you enjoy!
