Surf's up!

Ever wonder what waves look like from the bottom? These are 4-5 ft waves, which is in the "not bad" category but can be "a little choppy" if you are not used to it (and yes, that is like a doctor saying "you might feel some discomfort"). Diving in the Galapagos is not dangerous, but you do need to be prepared for the conditions: my summer diving is in a large river with current and the occasional storm, with water temperatures similar to the Galapagos, so I am used to the conditions and the amount of gear necessary. Many divers, though, have only ever been diving in tropical conditions (clear, warm water, calm conditions, no current or surge) and can be overwhelmed by the Galapagos. If you are going to go diving there, and it is definitely a destination worth a bucket list, make sure you train for it....

Good story. Very few people realise there is a different between knowledge of diving and knowledge of the water your in; a diver should never atop training, these pics prove that!
