On the Job

I was one of the first women in the USA to climb poles for the phone company. I did that job for 12 years before I was elected to serve my union, the CWA in 1984. I retired in 1998 after 30 years with the company at age 50.

I always saw telephone company men climbing wooden poles with spurs. At 10 it was magic and I wanted to do that too. I didn't though so "good for you"!!
