A Classic American Diner

Since I was a kid, I always enjoyed frequenting diners as a place to sit and munch on a hamburger and drink a Coke. So the American diner has always had a soft spot in my heart. There is a diner located 15 minutes from my house called Don's of Traverse City, which I have visited from time to time. The hamburgers are great, and they come with excellent pickles. And the place oozes diner charm.

I asked a waitress today if I could photograph Don's on the inside, and her response was, "Sure. Go right ahead. Everyone else does whether we try to stop them or not!" So here are my impressions of a classic American diner.

Love the pix! Keep up the good work. I recently just began managing a Diner in Athol MA, its called Big Shortys Main Street Diner and it is an original 1914 worchester Diner originally a horse drawn Diner that was put on a foundation and lenghthend and has been in this small town for 97 years. Great gallery, Jay ... I used to live in NJ back in the '60's and there were lots of diners around then (many now closed, tho). I don't think I ever had a bad meal (altho perhaps a gourmand might turn up their nose). Well done ...

This is a great gallery and holds lots of memories for me too. Although I've never been to this one, it reminds me of many from my (much) younger days. There's also one on the grounds of the Gilmore Car Museum called George & Sally's Blue Moon Diner. It's near Kalamazoo at Hickory Corners - a nice day trip from Farmington Hills. Great diner photos. I also have a passion for the old diners. They are a fun place for a bite to eat, and the decor is great. We have several Silver Diners in our area which are franchises and there is a Mel's Diner in nearby Grandy, NC. Check out my galleries here on Pbase if you get a chance.
