18th October 2010

Dad: here's another shot from our day out yesterday. I'd like to say Pooch was contemplating the splendour of the Jervaulx Abbey ruins
in this shot, but of course you know him better than that. :-) He was watching a rather large and portly woodpigeon which decided
to risk alighting on the lawn... one brief chase later, and the woodpigeon had learned the error of his ways.

Please visit our Jervaulx gallery if you are interested in seeing more of the Abbey: http://www.pbase.com/poochdad/jervaulx_abbey

Still trying to get to grips with the new exposure metering system on the 60D. It is very different from the 40D and, frankly, rather
bizarre. Some of the shots in our Jervaulx gallery had under-exposure of two stops set, but the camera still blew the skies out. I am
having to check every shot on the LCD to make sure the exposure is OK, which is a bit of a pain after becoming so used to the
metering of the 5D, 5D II, 300D, 400D and 40D that I could more or less predict what the camera would do for any given lighting conditions. I
suppose I will get used to it, but I am still struggling to avoid blown highlights and that really is frustrating.

Technology can both be great and a pain, I sometimes wish for my old Point and Shoot camera. : ) v

Hasn´t the rumour about this savage hunter called Pooch spread among the wildlife in your area? Stupid pidgeons...

New cameras can be a pain to get used to. Only thing frustrating with my new D3S is the lack of builtin flash (I can use it as master flash for the flashguns on my other cameras) and no + and - buttons when you´re checking pics in the LCD. You have to use both hands and the joystick, a button and the mainwheel to zoom in. And that camera is darn heavy!
But I love it any way! Yey, it can do everything except brewing coffee I guess ;o)

And... interesting on the 60D. I look forward to more updates.

Pooch has a handsome stance...

I guess my question has been answered on how the 60D is going. Nothing alters how the patrolman looks though :)
