Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 2007

These were the world's tallest towers from 1998 to 2004, and remain the highest twin structures on earth. I abstract the structure by interpreting it as an interlocking pattern of curving and linear windows. In doing so, I provide an unusual close-up look at the building’s metallic and glass façade which completely fills the frame. This photograph does not describe the building. Rather, the form and shape of the building itself is replaced by a pattern of repeating elements that offer an insight into its character – strong, supportive, modern, simple and interdependent.

It is wonderful to see you back in my galleries again, Alister. There is great value in expressing the nature of architecture through its detail, rather than through an entire structure. We can go beyond describing form, and instead reveal function, by stripping a building down to its essence through abstraction. This is a great building, and much of its greatness rests in its detail. Thanks for stopping by, and good luck with your own architectural studies.

Like Jenene says, a very nice approach to this classic icon.. I too have been getting drawn into the details of architecture and the powerful repetition of their lines and the opportunities for abstraction. This is a great building...

Thanks, Jenene, for adding a human value to this image. Strong and solid it is.

A perfect example of strength. Every photo I ever seen shows both towers side by side and yet you unify them to show solidarity. This signifies the entrance into the modern industrial and financial arena of countries such as Malaysia - sophisticated and modern, and still grounded in it's cultural and moral history.
