Fountain, Salem, Massachusetts, 2009

A spiraling jet of crystalline water comes tumbling out of a fountain honoring the works of Salem’s Nathaniel Hawthorne. I used a very fast shutter speed of 1/1250th of a second to preserve the pattern within the water.

I am sure the sculptor placed the woman carrying the pitcher in proximity to the gushing water on purpose. I stress the gush --it almost seems like she's "missed the boat" here.

I like that the woman seems to be carrying a pitcher to catch the water.

Thanks, Rose, for seeing what I saw here. It does look like a crystal sculpture.

Wow, the water is like a crystal sculpture! And its texture echoes the undulations in the fountain. Fantastic.
