Yes, bandito, the little Homo floresiensis were discovered on the same island. See, e.g., Little lady of Flores forces rethink of human evolution . I don't know where on Flores Liang Bua is; we were only on the western end of the island, in the province named Manggarai.

Hi Peter, I like your gallery, very very interesting. Good shots and good scans (I try also with coolscan, not so bad, look at on my gallery "Îles Crozet"). I worked also in Jakarta. In 1992, for Garuda (shuttle between Jakarta and Djeddah), not with DC3 but B747, different planes ! Best regards. Edouard.

Peter You were kind enought to comment on my 'Indonesia' and 'Trees of Indonesia' galleries. I will put some effort in better descriptions of the trees. I ceratinly enjoyed this gallery. You had a tough time getting there. We have just got back to Jakarta having spent a week in Yogyakarta. We went both ways by train - over 7 hours each way. Wow Peter, until now, you still remember the trip clearly. Indonesia is good place to visit at that time but not for this moment. You should revisit Bali someday. I've been there 5 times and my heart is always in Bali. =) Have a nice day. Regards Jongky

Thanks for your kind comments, Jongky -- it is an unforgettable memory. I first visited Indonesia at two and returned off and on thru my youth. In 1970 our fathers worked in Jakarta, and we decided to go to Komodo. (We got there eventually, but by then we were two weeks late -- they were having mass prayers for Paddy at George School.) We took a coastal freighter from Surabaja that stopped daily in Buleleng Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa Besar, Bima Sumbawa, and finally Reo in northern West Flores (Manggarai). We caught a truck to Ruteng and hired a jeep to Nangalili on the south coast, got a small perahu sail boat overnight (I was puking into the phosphorescence), hiked to a poor village in the middle of nowhere, got horses to the west coast (mine ran away over the hills in the middle), and sampan outriggers from there.

Well, Mine was actually at Waiwerang (Flores East) and yours was actually at Labuan Bajo (Flores West?) but both place was counted in Nusa Tenggara East. http://www.komodotours.com/flores_island/flores_map.htm By the way, I like your gallery much, it's so classic. They capture some of the spirit of the place. Plus it is B&W pics! I visited Flores about 12 years ago. No electricity, no entertainment, etc. I wonder, how come you visit such an island like that in 1970 =) It must be an unforgetable memory in your life.
