GAFB Documentation Project - Children's World

In August, 2009 I did a survey of the deserted child care center at the former George AFB. This building is on the boundary of a large area of demolition, and I suspect that when that effort continues it will be one of the first to go. Walking through this abandoned facility you can almost hear kids laughing, babies crying, and just the bustle of activity that must have existed.

I think I remember Davin Watson. I used to give all the workers a hard time. Davin Watson would take me and have a great time. He used to made my day when I has having a hard time with the other people.

To add, the place looks just like it did when I worked there back in the 70s, early 80s. The bx was across the street a ways. I would walk to the "shoppett" on my lunch break to buy glazed doughnuts...lol

OMG... I worked there when I was about 18 years old My supervisor at the time was Mrs. Ellis. Mrs. Jarvis worked in the office. Karen, Connie and Allie were my co-workers. I remember the lady that worked in the kitchen but I forgot her name. This was back in the late 70s or early 80s.

I am Mr Davin and I was the first male to work here in 1984. It changed my life, I am presently the Teen Director at Nellis AFB. If there is anyone that knows me call me at 803 236-8040

My daycare, too! I remember the Children's World 01 and 04 pictures very well. I agree with Jayson - it would be nice to check out the base again. I remember the path I walked to school and home. There was a baseball field right by my house and I lived about a block or two away from the school. I just found a map of it on Google maps. Oh those were the days!

Oh my goodness! My daycare! I remember the "Children's Worl 04" photo perfectly. I remember during New Years and other "adult" celebrations the Day Care would keep special hours. Man, this is a trip. I wish I could walk those streets once more.
