Kaiping 開平

Kaiping is most famous for the daiolou (碉樓), fortress like multi-story towers built by returning Chinese emigrants in the 19th and early 20th century as protection from bandit. Those built by wealthy owners have combined eastern and western architectural styles. They are listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
We visited Li Garden (塘口鎮 立園) constructed in 1936 by Xie Weili (謝維立) upon his return from the U.S.
