Arashiyama 嵐山 and Kameoka 亀岡 are in the northwest outskirt of Kyoto.
From the town of Kameoka we reached the Arashiyama district via the Sagano Scenic Railway 嵯峨野観光鉄道, which provides a scenic view of the rapids of the Hozu River 保津川. After walking through a bamboo grove, we reached the Zen Buddhist Tenryuji Temple 天龍寺 which was built in 1345. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the town of Arashiyama is the romantic Togetsukyō 渡月橋, beyond which the Hozu River changes its name to Katsura River 桂川.
