Short-toed Snake Eagle

Radar Hill, Prajoap Kirikan

A very rare bird in Thailand and a lifer for me. I was on my way to the South when I realized all that flooding wouldn't allow me to reach my destination. I turned around and drove way back up the coast. The raptor migration is still taking place here with thousands of raptors being Southbound.
One of the two hills, Radar Hill, one can drive to the top. It kept drizzling and there were heave winds. I sat in the car with a good book. In the early afternoon the rains stopped and birds started coming. I struggled with the ID of this one as the field guide I used doesn't show the birds upper parts. I searched in Google but no shots found of upperbody in flight. Chaiyan Kasorndorkbua, a raptor specialist, helped with the positive ID of the bird.
I felt very rewarded and triumphant having not only seen but also photographed this rarity.

(not as sharp as could be as it is very hard to focus with the forest in the background)
