Leadfield

Death Valley National Park view map

A shot of the ghost town that was once Leadfield, California. According to a Park Service sign at the site:

"Leadfield was a mining boom town founded on wild and distorted advertising. 300 hopeful people swarmed here
and a post office was established in August 1926. In February 1927 the post office closed and the town died."

All that remains now are a few wood/tin buildings, some concrete foundations, various tailings piles
and lots of prospect holes. Leadfield is located in the mountains east of Titus Canyon.

In the UK so many Small Towns & Villages went into decline after the Post Office Closed.

Fascinating. The town lasted barely a year it seems. The surroundings look hostile, but your image is fabulous. V

I was truly truly staggered by Death Valley nothing like I had ever experienced before and could possibly understand how any one could live there. I think this picture says it all. Great take.

Excellent comp and I like it very much in B&W..
Your info concerning the short lived town is indicative too so many towns across the Western States where gold/silver were concerned.
