The traditional country fair is held on the squares surrounding Salzburg Cathedral every year in September. St. Rupert's fair, held in honor of Salzburg's patron saint, is one of the city's most popular fairs. Its farmers' market, fair booths and arcades, merry-go-rounds and carousels, Ferris wheel, Hanswurst (i.e. Jack Pudding) and the suburban theater make it a spectacular event for young and old. The fair also offers valuable insight into local customs and craftsmanship.
